¶1Heard Ms. Lakshmi Paswan, Advocate holding brief of Sri Faizan Siddiqui, learned counsel for the petitioner and Ms. Neeru Devi, learned counsel for Union of India-respondent nos.1 to 3.

¶2The present writ petition has been preferred seeking direction upon Regional Passport Officer to process the application of the petitioner for issuance of passport.

¶3Learned counsel for the petitioner states that FIR was lodged in the year 1978 and it is claimed that in the aforesaid case police report was already submitted on 6.12.1978. She states that at present there is no criminal antecedent against the petitioner, hence, direction be issued to Regional Passport Officer to process the application of the petitioner as per law.

¶4Considering the facts and circumstances, without adverting any opinion on the merits of the case, we dispose of the writ petition with a direction that the third respondent i.e. Regional Passport Officer must process the application of the petitioner expeditiously, preferably within six weeks from the date of production of certified copy of this order, but certainly after taking necessary comments from the concerned police station.
