¶1The Petitioner, a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Jamia Millia Islamia ("JMI"), is due to superannuate on 31st August, 2026. He was placed under suspension by JMI vide order dated 22nd March, 2022 and continues to remain under suspension. It is the Petitioner's case that no disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against him till date.

¶2As his date of superannuation is approaching, the Petitioner submitted a representation dated 18th August, 2026 to the Registrar, JMI, seeking, inter alia, revocation of his suspension and release of his pensionary and other retiral benefits. The said representation is stated to be pending consideration. This is a digitally signed order. 3. Mr. Samman Vardhan Gautam, counsel for the Petitioner, confines the relief sought in the present petition to a direction to the competent authority of JMI to consider and decide the aforesaid representation in a time-bound manner.

¶4Mr. Pritish Sabharwal, Standing Counsel for JMI, who appears on advance notice, controverts the Petitioner's assertion that no disciplinary proceedings are pending against him. Nonetheless, in view of the limited relief pressed in the present petition, this Court does not consider it necessary to enter into this controversy.

¶5Having regard to the fact that the Petitioner is due to superannuate on 31st August, 2026, the present petition is disposed of with a direction to the competent authority of JMI to consider and decide the Petitioner's representation dated 18th August, 2026, in accordance with law, within a period of one week from today. It is clarified that this Court has not expressed any opinion on the merits of the representation or on the respective contentions of the parties, which are left open.

¶6With the above directions, the present petition is disposed of, along with pending application(s), if any.
