¶2By way of this application, the petitioner is seeking impleadment of Punjab National Bank as respondent no. 8 in W.P.(C) no. 5447/2017. It appears that the connected writ petition was filed to secure entitlement to retirement benefits and family pension for the petitioner following the death of one Kajal Chandra Dey who was the father of the petitioner no. 1 and the husband of the petitioner no. 2 who after retiring from the Indian Air Force, was working as a General Clerk in a nationalized bank. It appears that all the transactions relating to the service benefit and salaries of the petitioner no. 1's father and the petitioner no. 2' husband were handled by the United Bank of India, which being merged with the Punjab National Bank on 01.01.2020 along with Oriental Bank of Commerce, has become necessary to implead the Punjab National Bank as respondent in the connected writ petition for effective adjudication of the matter.

¶3Ms. Devi, learned counsel for the respondent nos. 1 – 5 and Mr. Dutta, learned counsel learned appearing for the respondent no. 6 submits that they have received no instructions to oppose the said impleadment.

¶4Reading the averments made in the aforesaid interlocutory application, it is amply evident that the presence of Punjab National Bank is essential and necessary for effective adjudication of the matter. Accordingly, this interlocutory application for impleadment stands allowed.

¶5It is directed that the Punjab National Bank be impleaded as respondent no. 8 by striking off United Bank of India from the Cause-Title.

¶6Let an amended Cause-Title be submitted before the Registry of this Page No.# 4/4 Court.

¶7The application stands disposed of.
