Heard Ms. P Borah, learned counsel for the petitioner and Mr. R J Baruah, learned Additional Public Prosecutor, Assam. This is an application filed under Section 483 of the BNSS, 2023 by the petitioner, namely, Md. Abdul Rouf, praying for release on bail, who was arrested in connection with Bihpuria P.S. Case No. 120/2024. Page No.# 2/2 Fake currency notes and one kilogram of fake gold biscuits were recovered from a person called Nekib Uddin. He gave a statement before Police stating that another person called Norshad Ali manufactured fake currency notes. During investigation, the said Nekib Uddin has stated before Police that the present petitioner was also involved in circulating fake currency notes. Mr. Baruah has submitted that there are sufficient incriminating materials in the Case Diary against the present petitioner. Ms. Borah has submitted that the petitioner has already completed 61 days in judicial custody and his period of detention should be taken as ground for releasing him on bail. I have considered the submission made by the learned counsel for both sides. Doing business of fake currency affects the economy of the country. It is a serious offence. Also, there are materials against the petitioner in the Case Diary. This Court is of the opinion that the petitioner does not deserve to be released on bail at this stage. Therefore, the bail application of the petitioner is rejected. Accordingly, the bail application is dismissed and disposed of. Case Diary shall be returned.
