ORDER (Order of the Court was made by R.SURESH KUMAR, J.) Prayer sought herein is for a writ of mandamus, to direct the respondent to consider and approve of petitioner's representation dated 10.02.2026 for name changing within a stipulated timeframe, that may be fixed by this Court.

¶2The petitioner's name originally was R.Vijayalakshmi, which has been changed into R.Vijayalakshmi Durai Kannan and in this regard, Tamil Nadu Government Gazette dated 28.01.2026 in Part IV Section 4 at Page No.145, Si.No.2062 was already published and therefore, in order to change the name in the records and Register being maintained by the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, a representation has been made by the petitioner on 10.02.2026, which has not been considered so far. Therefore, seeking a mandamus to consider the said representation and to do the needful to carryout the change of the name of the petitioner in the Register being maintained by the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, the present writ petition has been filed, is stated by Mr.K.N.Nataraaj, learned counsel appearing for the petitioner.

¶3We have heard Mr.C.K.Chandrasekar, learned Standing Counsel appearing for the respondent, who would submit that, these kind of jobs are to be undertaken only by the General Council of the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. As of now, since there is no General Council, as elections had already been announced, the work cannot be immediately undertaken by the Bar Council, but, since the day-to-day affairs is being undertaken by the Secretary of the Bar Council, who is a salaried Officer of the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, specific directions may be given to the Secretary of the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in this regard, he contended.

¶4Considering the said submissions made by the learned Standing Counsel appearing for the respondent, this Court is inclined to dispose of this writ petition with the following directions:-

(i) That, there shall be a direction to the respondent, that is the Secretary of Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, to look into the representation given by the petitioner dated

10.02.2026 with regard to the plea to carryout the change of name from R.Vijayalakshmi to R.Vijayalakshmi Durai Kannan in the records and the Register being maintained by the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and accordingly, after verifying the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette Notification dated 28.01.2026, the needful shall be undertaken by the Secretary of Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

¶5With these directions, the writ petition is disposed of. No costs. (R.S.K., J.) (N.S., J.)
