ORDER This petition has been filed seeking for a direction to the respondents 4 to 6 to provide adequate police protection to conduct 587th year Kanthuri Festival
(Urus) at Hazrath Haja Sheik Alavudeen Dharga situated in Beach Street, Yeripurai Village, Pattukkottai, Thanjavur District for this year from 16.07.2026 to 29.07.2026 and for upcoming years in the light of the judgment in WOP No. 12 of 2009 dated 16.09.2016.
¶2The learned counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that the judgment passed by the Principal Subordinate Judge, Thanjavur, in W.O.P. It was further submitted that this Court, by order dated 10.08.2023 in W.P.(MD) No.16361 of 2023, had also passed a favourable order permitting the petitioner to conduct the Kanthuri Festival (Urus) in the aforesaid Dargah. Based on the said orders, the petitioner had organised and conducted the Kanthuri Festival (Urus) during the year 2023. Similarly, for the current year also, the petitioner has filed the present writ petition seeking police protection for the peaceful and proper conduct of the Kanthuri Festival (Urus).
¶3The learned counsel appearing for the respondents 1 to 3 raised serious objection for the same.
