Judgment

ORDER The present petition has been filed by the first accused in P.R.C.No.16 of 2013, on the file of the learned Judicial Magistrate No.VI, Madurai, seeking to quash the charge sheet wherein the petitioner is charged with the offences under Sections 447, 353, 309 of IPC and Section 3(1) of TNPPDL Act.

¶2A perusal of the charge sheet reveals that the petitioner along with 30 others who are Law College students, have protested as against the arrival of the Srilankan President and entered into the District Court campus and attempted to doubt themselves with petrol. When the police made an attempt to save them, the first accused is said to have damaged the windows to a tune of Rs.1080/-

¶3According to the learned Counsel appearing for the petitioner, the incident had taken place 14 years back and he regrets for the same and the petitioner would not do the same in future. He submits that he is ready to deposit the value of the glass windows.

¶4I have considered the submissions made on either side and perused the materials available on record.

¶5Considering the circumstances in which the incident has taken place, this Court is of the considered opinion that the charge sheet could be quashed on condition that the petitioner deposits a sum of Rs.2,000/- (Rupees Two Thousand only) before the District Legal Services Authority, Madurai.

¶6In view of the above said facts, the charge sheet in P.R.C.No.16 of 2013 on the file of the learned Judicial Magistrate No.VI, Madurai, stands quashed on condition that the petitioner deposits a sum of Rs.2,000/- (Rupees Two Thousand only) before the District Legal Services Authority, Madurai, on or before 15.07.2026.

7.With the above said observations, this Criminal Original Petition stands allowed. Consequently, connected miscellaneous petitions are also closed.

¶8Post on 16.07.2026, "for reporting compliance".
