Judgment

ORDER This Writ Petition has been filed seeking the issuance of a Writ of Mandamus directing the first respondent to process the petitioner's application in File No.MD1077014249126, dated 13.06.2026 and to issue a passport to the petitioner.

2.Heard Mr.Bharath R Srinivas, learned counsel appearing for the petitioner and Mr.A.Muthuramalingam, learned Standing Counsel, who accepts notice on behalf of the respondent.

3.By consent of both parties, the Writ Petition is taken up for final disposal at the stage of admission itself.

4.The learned counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that the petitioner's date of birth has been inadvertently entered as 11.05.1974, whereas his actual date of birth is 11.05.1977, which is reflected in all other Government records. It is further submitted that the petitioner submitted an application for issuance of passport on 13.06.2026. However, the respondent has not processed the said application till date. Hence, the present writ petition has been filed before this Court.

5.Per contra, the learned Standing Counsel appearing for the respondent submitted that if the petitioner produces all the relevant documents in support of his claim regarding the correction of the date of birth, the same would be considered by the respondent and appropriate orders would be passed in accordance with law.

¶6Considering the submissions made on either side, this Court is inclined to issue a direction to the respondent to consider the petitioner's application. Accordingly, the petitioner is directed to produce all the relevant documents in support of his claim before the respondent. On such production, the respondent shall consider the petitioner's passport application bearing File No. MD1077014249126, dated 13.06.2026, on its own merits and in accordance with the provisions of the Passports Act, 1967 and the Rules framed thereunder and pass appropriate orders as expeditiously as possible, preferably within a period of six (6) weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.

¶7With the above direction, this Writ Petition stands disposed of. No costs.
