W.P.(MD)No.20506 of 2026 K.Raju ... Petitioner Vs Madurai. ... Respondents PRAYER : Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying for issuance of a Writ of Certiorari, to call for the records on the file of the 1st respondent in connection with the impugned order of transfer and posting of police personnel passed vide his proceedings in C.No.A1/E-14725233/2026 dated 15.07.2026 and quash in so far as the petitioner's transfer found place at S.No.2 is concerned and quash the same as illegal and punitive in nature. (In both petitions) For Petitioners : Mr.G.Thalaimuthurasu For Respondents : Mr.Porkodi Karnan Counsel for State of Tamil Nadu COMMON ORDER These Writ Petitions have been filed for the issuance of a Writ of Certiorari, quash the impugned order of transfer and posting of police personnel passed by the first respondent in his proceedings in C.No.A1/E-14725233/2026 dated
15.07.2026, insofar as the petitioner's transfer at Sl. No.2 & 3 are concerned, on the ground that the same are illegal, arbitrary, and punitive in nature.
¶2Through the impugned order, the respondents have transferred three police personnel. The contention of the petitioners are that all the three officials are facing criminal case in which an FIR has been registered and that they are also facing disciplinary proceedings. It is further submitted that they were placed under suspension and upon revocation of the suspension, the impugned transfer order came to be passed. According to the petitioners, the transfer is punitive in nature
¶3It is seen from the impugned order that all the three persons have been transferred to the Tirunelveli Range. Since the delinquents are facing disciplinary proceedings, transferring them to a place situated more than 300 kilometres away would make it difficult for them to attend the disciplinary proceedings. Moreover, it is submitted that the said Raju is about to retire within a period of ten months. It is further submitted that Sudha Rani, being a lady officer, has expressed difficulty in travelling to Tirunelveli to attend the disciplinary proceedings.
¶4Therefore, considering the above facts and circumstances, this Court is directing the third respondent to retain the officials within the Madurai Region by posting K.Raju at Madurai and P.Sudha Rani at Vedasandur, and to complete the disciplinary proceedings within a period of six months from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. Upon completion of the disciplinary proceedings, the respondents are at liberty to take appropriate action in accordance with law.
¶5With the above directions, these Writ Petitions are disposed of. There shall be no order as to costs. Consequently, connected miscellaneous petitions are closed.
