Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 · Chapter XXXII: Execution, Suspension, Remission and Commutation of Sentences · D.–General provisions regarding execution

Section 431: Money ordered to be paid recoverable as a fine

The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 was repealed and replaced by the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 from 1 July 2024. It still applies to offences and proceedings from before that date.

Now in the BNSS section 471 (Money ordered to be paid recoverable as a fine)

In plain words

Any money other than a fine payable under an order under this Code, where no other recovery method is provided, can be recovered as if it were a fine. For costs ordered under section 359, the proviso to sub-section (1) of section 421 is read to include such costs.

E.—Suspension, remission and commutation of sentences

Corresponding sections were matched by comparing the wording of both official texts, and for the IPC and BNS, also against a published correspondence table. Wording, punishments and structure often changed, so read both sections before relying on the match.
